Terry Jermy MP has written to Flagship Housing asking for urgent meeting and clarity over the proposed development of the Abbey Estate in Thetford that has now being going on for six years.
The proposals by Flagship Group would result in the demolition and rebuild of hundreds of houses in the 1,100-home estate along with the construction of hundreds of new properties.
Jermy, Member of Parliament for South West Norfolk, said that the protracted project “has now been running for some six years with no end in sight.” adding that, “the planning process seems to have stalled, and I am led to believe that Breckland Council are still waiting for additional information from your organisation.”
Jermy also cited the need for an urgent update for residents. “This situation and this delay is putting an intolerable strain on local residents” as well as citing their well-being and mental health given the numerous upsetting conversations with people concerned for their future.
“There is a view amongst residents that communication about your proposals has been quite poor and that as a result, they continue to face a very uncertain future. There needs to be urgent clarity provided as to the status of the project and an updated timeline of key dates provided.”
Jermy concluded by saying, “I remain deeply concerned about your proposals for the Abbey Estate but regardless of the specific proposals, the community should be treated with respect and courtesy and these delays and uncertainty serve no one.”
