Terry Jermy MP, Member of Parliament for South West Norfolk, appeals to residents and businesses to pledge to pick at least one bag of litter in his constituency for Keep Britain Tidy’s 10th Great British Spring Clean.
Jermy spent his morning litter picking in his hometown of Thetford.
“I love my constituency; this is the place I have lived all my life, and it is an honour to serve it an MP and formerly as a councillor, but there is nothing more important than being part of the community. And for that community to flourish it requires us all to come together and look after it.
“I have always been an advocate of the Great British Spring Clean, it’s an event where all ages and backgrounds can chip in, and send a positive message of belonging, restore pride and reconnect our relationship with our neighbours.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s 10th Great British Spring Clean, which runs from 21 March to 6 April this year, brings together individuals, community organisations, schools, businesses and councils in Norfolk to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.
Terry Jermy was delighted to lend his support to back the charity’s plea to the public to pledge on its website to pick one bag or more of litter from streets, parks, beauty spots and beaches in order to protect our vibrant communities and precious wildlife habitats.
The charity reports that last year:
97% of participants agreed that they felt they had made a difference to their local area.
84% of people who took part in the Great British Spring Clean agreed that they felt more pride for their local area
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: “We are so grateful for the support of MP’s like Terry and their constituents.
“The Great British Spring Clean is a fantastic way for people to really show their pride in where they live and connect with like-minded neighbours, while taking serious and immediate action to protect the environment on their doorstep.
“During this year’s campaign, we are highlighting that the environment belongs to everyone, and that everyone is welcome to join in with our activities and celebrate the 10th Great British Spring Clean.
“We are humbled to see our army of #LitterHeroes volunteers carrying out these acts of kindness to make the planet a cleaner, safer place for our future generations.”
